Of course it will be possible to give quotations in other languages. In the case of longer quotations, however, we strongly recommend that you provide an English or French translation in a corresponding endnote.

• a file, handed in on a DOS-formatted disc (3’’; HD or DD). Please do not forget to indicate clearly the name and the version of your word-processing programme (i.e.: Word for Windows 7.0).

If not, we need a text-file and an additional RTF-file (i.e. a "Rich-Text-Format" version of your text-file) – your programm should offer you this as an additional option for saving (and exporting) texts.

If your programm does not allow for RTF-exports – please throw it away and start anew! If you are reluctant to do so but perfectly willing to bear our curses: Send us an ASCII-file of your text, copy all of your endnotes as text (not as embedded notes!) into a second file and save this too in an ASCII-version on your disc.

If your programme provides layout-options (if not, again: throw it away!) please use the following only:

• "title1/Überschrift1" for your name and the title of your contribution;

• "title2/Überschrift2" for all subtitles;

• "standard/Standard" for all of your text, except for longer quotations (more than three lines) and endnotes

• "Quote/Zitat" for longer quotations (more than three lines) - do not use quotation marks, neither at the beginning, nor at the end of these quotations;

• "Endnotetext/Endnotentext" for all (you guessed it) endnotes.

The only difference between these layouts is in the size of the font (see below). All paragraphs are double-spaced and not indented. Just assign the correct layout (all based on "Standard") – and we will do the rest.

• TIMES ROMAN 10 pt for (longer) quotations and endnotes.

For continuous quotations from the same source you can use page numbers in brackets within the main text.

If there are many quotations from one particular source we strongly recommend that you introduce an abbreviation with the first quotation to reduce the number of endnotes:

• Place numbers of endnotes after full stop and semicolon, but before commas.

• Distinguish between hyphen (co-ordinate) and dash (xxxx – xxx); if you cannot find the dash on your keyboard use a doubble hyphen instead (xxxx -- xxxx).

• Use English quotation marks (»xxx«, ›xxx‹ or "xxxx", ‘xxx’) in English essays and French quotations marks («xxx», ‹xxx›) in French ones (but only one version in the whole of your essay).

• After a full stop, comma or semicolon there is always a space.

All contributions to the volume will represent original scholarship written for this project and shall not have been published elsewhere in any language. Further, the author will agree not to publish his/her contribution to elsewhere in any language until two years after the publication of our volume.
