| One of priority directions in education in the new milennium will be broadening of the spectrum of new educational services that are based upon modern informational technologies. It helps to inprove quality of training and retraining of specialists in accordance with international standarts. One of such novelties that correspond to needs of the modern society is Distance Education. At present, both abroad and in Russia sone universities successfully work using their own systems of distance education. Because of this and because of necessity in development and constant perfectioning of educational programs there is a growing need for exchange of experience between universities. Kemerovo State University is an active supporter of ideas of distance education in educational policy. At the moment more than 12 thousand students with 21 majors study in Kemerovo State University together with 250 graduate students with 33 majors and about 20 post-doctoral researchers. Annually, more than 1250 students are enlisted in Kenerovo State University, and more than 300 students are enlisted for tuition by correspondence. Their education is free for the students and paid for from the state budget. In 1999 about 3500 students were enlisted on the contract basis which means that they pay for their education. Kemerovo State University includes 11 faculties, graduate school, doctoral school with three specialties, three subsidiaries in the Kemerovo region, the Regional center for retraining of specialists and refresher courses for different branches of industry, Internet Center, Centert of Continuing Educatiopn, research institutes and laboratories, etc. As a classical university our university became one of the leading schools not only in Siberia but in Russia (it has 12-15 position in the annual rating of Russian Universities). In 1999 The Institute of distance education was established in Kemerovo State University where educational process corresponds to individual abilities and opportunities of a student. A student of Institute of distance education can graduate with a degree in law, finance, management or marketing. Learning is organized with use of case-technology: a student receives an educational supply and a methodical complex for each subject and works individually under guidance of a consulting professor or a tutor. Leading instructors of Kemerovo University work as tutors. Such distance education can be received by people who live in different cities and towns and they can study simultaneously with their work without leaving their job. New form of organization of educational process in Kemerovo University can not only broaden the spectrum of services of our university but also bring more students to the school who will be demanded at the labor market after graduation. |
