| Panel Members:
Abstract: The Global Distance Education Network is a World Bank Group Web site that provides a coherent and comprehensive guide to all aspects of distance education. It is intended primarily for use in the developing-country context, but is also a valuable resource for educators and policy makers in all settings who are concerned with increasing educational access and improving educational quality through the use of distance education. Each of the 117 topics within the site contains carefully selected articles and Web links, offering users over 300 references on distance education. Global Distance Education Network, initiated following a presentation at ICDE 1997, has constructed and validated a knowledge taxonomy, development a core site of resources on the external Web at the World Bank, and has begun preliminary work in establishing regional centers around the world. The presentation at this conference will review what has been accomplished in the past two years, what the current plans are for the establishment of the global network, and will solicit suggestions from conference participants to enhance the Network in the future. The panel will feature both team members from the core site at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. and directors of the regional sites. Conference participants wishing to preview the site can locate it at: worldbank.org/disted/
Equipment needed: I have not heard back from one member of the panel on their technical requirements. I will send information on this question in my next message. |
