"Designing Classrooms for Interactive Telepresence Teaching based upon the outcomes of the Blueprint for Interactive Classrooms Project (European Commission TAP E&T)"

The idea behind this workshop is to provide ICDE delegates with first-hand knowledge of the outcomes of the BIC project which is concerned with the effective design and use of telepresence teaching facilities. The emphasis is very much upon practical design and is aimed primarily at those interested in setting up similar facilities in their own institution. This workshop will include direct presentation of the classrooms being used in each of the universities involved as well as a demonstration of the various uses to which they are being put during this large scale demonstration phase. This workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to hear about the outcomes of the evaluation which has taken place during 1998/1999 and which is concerned with the following three questions:

How effective from a pedagogical point of view are these facilities?
How user-friendly are they?
Are they cost effective?
