This tour will show you some of Vienna's most impressive buildings. You will see the
famous Ringstrasse with the State Opera, the National Museums, the Imperial Palace, the
Parliament, the City Hall, the "Burgtheater" (the Imperial Theatre), the
University and the Votive Church. Highlight of this tour is a visit to Schönbrunn Palace,
the former summer residence of the Austrian emperors.

"Art Nouveau in Vienna"
Tuesday, June 22
In the course of this tour you will become acquainted with some of the most important and
well-known buildings of the "Art Nouveau" era in Vienna, designed by great
architects such as Otto Wagner or Joseph Maria Olbrich. The highlight of this tour is a
visit to the church "Am Steinhof", which has been excellently restored and is
one of the major contributions to the Viennese "Jugendstil".

"Excursion to the
Wienerwald"
Wednesday, June 23
A half day excursion to the pleasant scenery of the well-known "Vienna Woods".
Passing the old Roman town of Baden - famous for its thermal springs, we take you to a
romantic valley called "Helenental" and the former hunting lodge of the Habsburg
familiy at Mayerling. We stop at the commemorative chapel where Crown Prince Rudolph, the
only son of Emperor Franz Joseph, is said to have committed suicide with his mistress
Baroness Vetsera in 1889. In the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz you will visit the
gothic cloister which still houses the remains of the last members of the Babenberg
dynasty. Driving passed the "Höldrichsmühle", where Franz Schubert composed
his song "The Linden Tree", you leave the Vienna Woods and return to Vienna,
passing Liechtenstein castle along the way.

"The Biedermeier period and its
musicians"
Wednesday, June 23
Between 1815 and 1848 the state reacted to growing political pressure by exercising a
strict censorship. The famous drawing-rooms of the town, popular among the upper class,
turned into the cultural centers of Vienna. Love of music became a characteristic feature
of the city. This walking tour will take you past Freyung, Schottenstift and Mölkerbastei
- places closely associated with music and famous musicians. During a visit to the Museum
of the "Neue Burg" you will have a chance to see and hear the musical
instruments of that time. This tour will end in a typical Viennese coffee-house.

"The Imperial Palace and
Imperial Treasury"
Thursday, June 24
You will walk through the "Hofburg", the former winter residence of the Habsburg
family which ruled Austria for approxiamtely 600 years until 1918, and visit the Imperial
State Appartments, the Imperial Treasury housing the Crown of the Holy Roman Empire as
well as the Austrian Imperial Crown. The magnificent hall of the National Library, one of
the masterpieces of baroque architecture, will be seen at the end of this tour.
