Educational Scientist Prof. Dr. Bastiaens defines his position: “Learn to teach best!”

 

Prof. Dr. Theo J. Bastiaens is Professor at the FernUniversität in Hagen (Germany) with the Department of Instructional Technology and Media since January 2006.

He studied Educational Sciences at the Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht (Netherlands) and wrote his doctoral thesis “Working and Learning with Electronic Performance Support Systems” at the University of Twente (Netherlands). As of 1997 Prof. Dr. Bastiaens has been Assistant Professor at Twente at the Subject Area Curriculum Theory. In 1998 he relocated to the Open Universiteit Nederland where he has been working as Associate Professor at the Educational Technology Expertise Centre since 2002.

He will still be working as Professor for Instructional Technology and Media at the Ruud de Moor Centre, Institute for Professional Training of Teachers, at the Open Universiteit for one day per week.

Prof. Dr. Bastiaens has contributed to numerous international publications and is also reviewer of several journals such as “Computers in Human Behaviour”.

Since March 2016 Professor Bastiaens is Prorector for Digitalisation and Internationalisation, with the focus on digitalisation of teaching.
