Abstract:
In this article some problems and the potential contributions of e-learning
to their solution are discussed. The introduction of e-learning changes the
cost structure of studying. As a rule, it raises fixed costs and lowers variable
costs. The total effect is scale dependent and a matter of empirical research.
The effect of spatial distance collapses and e-learning helps to open up new
time resources for students. The time that is needed for pure distribution of
contents is dramatically shortened. However, this advantage is paid for with
longer preparation times. Further discussion deals with motivation. Relying
on attraction of new technologies and ex-trinsic sources of motivation is a
high risk strategy. In face of a variety of possible contents and didactic models,
the scope of e-learning is still a largely undiscovered area. In order to find
a fit of content, (societal and individual) situation and method, a correct
factual, didactic and systemic analysis is necessary.
Key words:
Blended learning, costs, e-learning, didactic, distant
learning, motivation.
