Gegenstand des Projektes "from e-learning to m-learning" Hier geht's zur offiziellen Homepage bei Ericsson In diesem Leonardo-Projekt (IRL/00/B/PP-110.209) geht es um die Entwicklung von Lösungen für die vielfältigen Probleme im Bereich des "mobilen Lernens"; dabei sollen die Einsatzmöglichkeiten von aus der Mobilfunk-Branche stammenden Geräten im Bereich von Aus-, Fort- und Weiterbildung ausgelotet werden. Für das ZIFF wurden daher verschiedene Versionen eines Kurses zum Thema "Einführung in die deskriptive Statistik" entwickelt, da dieses Thema ein breites Spektrum von Interessenten ansprechen dürfte, nämlich vom mündigen Bürger über Redakteure bis hin zu Erstsemestlern mit Nebenfach Statistik so ziemlich alle: deutscher WAP-Kurs für Mobiltelephone (http://wap.drgst.de/invz.wml) und andere WAP-fähige Geräte mit einer Bildschirmbreite von ca. 300 Pixeln. Entwickelt fü das ERICSSON R380s, aber auch sinnvoll für PSION 5x/REVO; auch für PCs/PDAs mit WAP-Browsern, Emulatoren bzw. SDKs. OPERA und KLONDIKE gehen mehr schlecht als recht, die mit WMLS programmierten Aufgaben gar nicht. Dies ist der Referenzkurs in Deutsch, alle anderen Versionen sind daraus abgeleitet. Es kostet nichts, im Gegenteil, wenn Sie den kompletten Kurs durcharbeiten (ca. 3h mit Vorkenntnissen, ca. 6h ohne), alle Aufgaben einsenden und dann den Fragebogen zum Projekt ausfüllen (nochmal ca. 1/2h), erhalten Sie eine offizielle Bescheinigung und gegen Quittung 15€ (für nicht UNICODE-fähige Browser: 15 Euro). Der letzte Einsendetermin für bearbeitete Aufgaben und den Fragebogen ist Freitag, der 8. November 2002. Die kleine Belohnung ist natürlich vergleichweise wenig gegenüber dem sich auch einstellenden guten Gewissen, der Wissenschaft geholfen zu haben... Hier geht's zum Fragebogen Hintergrund Die technologische Infrastruktur für drahtlose Telefonie und drahtlose Computerarbeit ist heutzutage flächendeckend vorhanden und findet zunehmend in der Gesellschaft Verbreitung. Das Projekt 'from e-learning to m-learning' soll nun die Möglichkeiten der Integration solcher mobiler Technologien in die Aus- und Weiterbildung unter Berücksichtigung didaktischer Konzepte entwickeln und testen. Speziell soll untersucht werden, welche Möglichkeiten von Bluetooth, WAP, GPRS und UMTS für didaktische Ziele sinnvoll und zu für die Teilnehmer vertretbaren Kosten in ein Konzept zum mobilen Lernen integriert werden können. Bei dem Projekt "from e-learning to m-learning" handelt es sich um ein Projekt, das aus EU Mitteln ( Kurzbeschreibung von Leonardo II, B) gefördert wird. Das ZIFF der FernUniversität ist in diesem Projekt als Partner tätig. Die Konsortialführerschaft liegt bei der Firma Ericsson, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Irland. Nach Absprache der Projektpartner oblag es dem ZIFF, einen Kurs für das ERICSSON Smartphone R380s und das Medium WAP zu entwickeln; als Thema wurde schließlich "Einführung in die deskriptive Statistik" festgelegt. In Erweiterung dieses engen Auftrages entschloß sich das Projektteam am ZIFF, den Kurs auf allen Plattformen, die für mobiles Lernen eingesetzt werden können, zur Produktreife zu entwickeln, da nur so verläßliche Informationen über die Serienreife der eingesetzten Technologien zu erhalten sind. Besonderes Gewicht liegt dabei auf der Ausgestaltung der verschiedenen Kommunikations-Kanäle, wie sie aus didaktischen Gesichtspunkten für ein erfolgreiches mobiles Lernen gefordert werden müssen. The feasibility of using devices stemming from the field of mobile communications for training, education and studying is investigated. For that, several versions of a course on 'introduction to descriptive statistics' were developed for use at ZIFF. This course is meant for all people from 'responsible citizens', newspaper editors or even university students with statistics being their subsidiary subject: english WAP course designed for cellular phones (http://wap.drgst.de/invz-en.wml) and other WAP enabled devices with a horizontal screen size of approx. 300 pixels. Designed for use with ERICSSON R380s, but it works with PSION 5x/REVO, too, as well as with WAP browsers, emulators and SDKs. OPERA and KLONDIKE perform poorly, sending in the excercises doesn't work at all due to WMLS coding. This version is to be used for reference, all other version were derived from this one. It is for free, and on top of that, if you completely work through the course (approx. 3h if you have heard of descriptive statistics before, otherwise 6h), send in all the exercises and fill out the project questionnaire (additionally approx. 1/2h), you'll receive an official certification and 15€ (for not UNICODE-enabled browsers: 15 Euro) if you sign the bill. Follow this link to see the questionnaire Background information In these days the coverage of the technologies providing mobile telephony and mobile computing is sufficient. Moreover, the devices are used by nearly all members of society. The project 'from e-learning to m-learning' was launched to develop, test and evaluate solutions for the integration of mobile technologies into vocational and university education. The didactic principles of distance education shall be considered during this process. It shall be analysed in detail which parts of Bluetooth, WAP, GPRS and UMTS can be used to reach didactic aims at reasonable costs and build a general concept for mobile learning. The project 'from e-learning to m-learning' is funded by the EU (brief description of Leonardo II, B, in German). The ZIFF is a partner in this project which is led by Ericsson, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Irland. On their web server, you can find the offical homepage of the project (in English). These ZIFF-pages contain the documentation of the current work, some additional material, notes, and a table of mobile devices. All partners agreed on ZIFFs part to be the development of a course designed for the ERICSSON Smartphone R380s using the medium WAP; in the end, the subject 'introduction to descriptive statistics' was chosen. But the ZIFF team soon realised the restrictions of this narrow task and made up its mind to provide the course on all platforms suitable for mobile learning. Only this way allows for a realistic opinion of the suitability of all different devices and media for mobile learning. Particularly, great efforts are spent on the implementation of all the communication channels necessary for successful mobile learning from didactic reasons.
