Professors Theo J. Bastiaens, Ulrike Baumöl and Bernd J. Krämer opened the First Symposium on Collective Intelligence at FernUniversität.
The idea for this event sprang out of their collaboration in small community of authors who were writing the eKNIC (eKnowledge Network and Innovation Center) proposal. The event is a simple example of collective intelligence that occurs when the members of a social community purposefully interact and create ideas or intelligent behavior, which would not have been observed without the existence of the community.
According to the attendees feedback, the symposium, including a keynote by Peter Gloor from MIT (MIT Center for Collective Intelligence) and a workshop on Friday, April 16, was successful and great interest in a follow-on event was expressed. The current plan is to co-locate this event with the next SDPS conference in Korea.
