From the Printed Study Unit to the Internet – 30 Years FernUniversität in Hagen

Examination by video conference
For many people printed study units - lectures in written form – still are the embodiment of distance higher education made in Hagen. Today, study units are an integral part of Blended Learning along with CD-ROM, DVD, and the various Internet applications.

When new learning media and communication technologies were developed, such as fax, audio- and video cassettes, they were examined by the FernUniversität for their usability in teaching, and found to be good. The same applied to computers, too.

For many years a science-oriented fan community has watched the in-house FernUniversität educational television series which were regularly broadcasted via the WDR television station in Cologne. Today there are Internet streams instead of these programmes.
