The University

The FernUniversität in Hagen – University of Hagen - is the only state-maintained distance teaching university in the German-speaking countries and regions. They benefit from our modern distance education system which combines pedagogically well prepared study units with individual support, net-based co-operation in seminars and working groups, online communication offers and face-to-face sessions (Blended Learning). Contact and contact persons for the students are to be found on the main campus at Hagen as well as at the around 50 study centres in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Central and Eastern Europe. Since we offer a real alternative to on-campus studies with high-quality final degrees (Bachelor, Master and Doctorate), we particularly also stand for the trend towards lifelong learning. That is why over 74,000 students have chosen to study with us.

The City of Hagen

The City of Hagen is situated on four rivers and embedded in the beautiful country side between the Sauerland region and the Ruhr area. Hagen offers both important and exciting historical references. The city is home to the FernUniversität Hagen, which is the only state funded distance education university in Germany.

Two airports are relevant:

  • The nearest airport is in Düsseldorf (external link: www.duesseldorf-international.de/dus_en/). Taking the train from Düsseldorf airportit to Hagen takes about 1 - 1.5 hour trainride. Please note that Düsseldorf airport has two train stations: (a) the train station „Terminal S“ in the basement of the terminal building serving some local trains and the regular train station „Düsseldorf Flughafen“ accessible by sky train.
We recomment to use the Journey Planer from http://www.vrr.de/en/ using the values „Düsseldorf Flughafen“ for for the from-field and „Hagen Hbf“ for the to-field. It will give you a connection using local trains. The required ticket fee is around 12 Euros for a level D ticket.
