Cities in Balance − Scientific evaluation and training programme

"CIB − CITIES IN BALANCE.ACTIVE CITIES FOR ALL AGES" − is a transnational regional development project involving ten North−Western European partner cities of four different countries: Hagen (D), Brugge (BE), Edinburgh (UK), Genk (BE), Kaiserslautern (D), Leeds (UK), Leverkusen (D), Southampton (UK), Stockport (UK), Vlaardingen (NL). Within this project FernUniversität in Hagen serves as the scientific partner. A main objective of CIB is to define and explore innovative strategies to address both the challenges and the opportunities that come with demographic ageing for cities and communities. Specifically, CIB aims to develop and/or optimise innovative strategies for

  • empowering older persons
  • securing social, financial and digital inclusion
  • fostering social cohesion and age−balanced environments
  • expanding new economic and employment opportunities.

The training programme Become an ageing Xpert! blends first hand practical experiences gained in CIB and basic research findings from other sources in a virtual learning environment at which visitors can educate themselves about the global and local−level challenges and opportunities of demographic ageing. The programme has been designed to reach a broad audience of individuals who are currently actively involved (or would like to become involved) in activities or projects addressing demographic ageing in the context of their community:

  • Community group and non−profit organization leaders
  • Business owners, craftsmen and human resource managers
