GEF3D's LWJGL plug at lwjgl.org

The LWJGL plugin used by GEF3D is now directly available at lwjgl.org. See this forum posting for further details.

11.11.2008: GEF3D temporarily unavailable

Unfortunately GEF3D cannot be downloaded at the moment. In the context of becoming an Eclipse project, the GEF3D code and used 3rd-party libraries were reviewed for legal problems. Unfortunately the LWJGL library was not approved by the Eclipse foundation due to legal problems. Thus we have decided to stop the LWJGL-plugin project. Since GEF3D is useless without LWJGL (we are using LWJGL as an OpenGL wrapper), GEF3D will not be available at the moment. We are working on replacing LWJGL with some other library with no legal problems.

06.11.2008: The Eclipse gef3d project is complete!

Gef3D is moving to Eclipse. The Eclipse GEF3D project has been provisioned and an initial webpage a http://www.eclipse.org/gef3d has been created. The code is going to be reviewed, and then moved to the Eclipse SVN. Meanwhile, you can download GEF3D from here- Note that the code available from this webpage (at FernUniverstität in Hagen) is a private release by Jens v. Pilgrim and not the Eclipse release yet.

27.10.2008: Gef3D at Eclipse DemoCamp in Berlin

We'll present Gef3D at the Eclipse DemoCamp in Berlin, Germany, on November, 27th. The DemoCamps are free, for more information see here.

07.11.2008: LWGJL 2.0.0 available

On October 26th, LJGLW 2.0 was released. You find the matching Eclipse feature and plugin on our update site, see our LWJGL plugin page for details.

24.09.2008: Gef3D 0.8.1 released, last de.feu release

GEF3D 0.8.1 will be the last release with de.feu.draw3d and de.feu.gef3d packages. Newer versions will be found at Eclipse.org and the packages will be renamed to org.eclipse.draw3d and org.eclipse.gef3d. Stay tuned!

16.07.2008: Gef3D Goes Public

First version of Gef3D (0.8.0) released under the Eclipse Public License.

This is the GEF3D website hosted at the FernUniversität in Hagen. It contains additional information about GEF3D. The main website of GEF3D can be found at http://www.eclipse.org/gef3d, since GEF3D has become an Eclipse project---sources, releases, bugzilla, newsgroup, and mailing list can all be found there.

Gef3D is an Eclipse GEF extension bringing 3D to diagram editing. That is with Gef3D you can create 3D diagrams, 2D diagrams and combine 3D with 2D diagrams. It is based on OpenGL and Java technologies, thus running on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. It is made public under the Eclipse Public License. Gef3D extends GEF by providing 3D enabled draw and controller classes. Instead of drawing 2D figures, you can now draw 3D figures. Existing GEF-based 2D editors can be embedded into 3D editors with minimal effort. This is achieved by projecting the output of the embedded editors onto 3D planes and bridging the gap between 2D and 3D content: 3D objects can transparently access 2D content and vice versa. Additionally, multi-diagram editors can be created by combining several single diagram editors. For example multiple 2D diagrams can be displayed and edited simultaneously on different planes and 3D elements can be used to display inter-model connections. Fully 3D graph based editors can be implemented with little or no knowledge of 3D programming since the framework is used exactly the same way as the original 2D framework. All 3D related problems are hidden from the programmer (more or less ;-) ).
