Reading is a key gateway to knowledge in all areas of education. The Moodle plugin Longpage supports students in reading longer study texts through various functions.


What are the problems and the goals?

Students face the challenge of dealing with extensive and sometimes difficult academic texts. They often lack strategies for self-regulation when reading, support in understanding texts, and inclusive offerings for learners with different language skills. This can lead to superficial text reception, a lack of understanding, and low motivation.

Teachers need efficient tools to create high-quality digital study materials. However, preparing texts for digital learning environments is often time-consuming and technically demanding. In addition, there is a lack of integrated solutions that enable direct cooperation between humans and AI in the learning platform, where teachers retain full control over source materials and generated results.

What is the solution?

Reading is a central gateway to knowledge in all areas of education. The Moodle plugin Longpage supports students in reading longer study texts through various functions:

Reader-friendly design and navigation: A reader-friendly design provides tools that facilitate navigation and orientation within the text, such as a table of contents, individual bookmarks, cross-references, and a full-text search.

Self-regulated learning: To support self-regulated learning, students can highlight text passages in color and anchor personal notes in the text. The estimated reading time is also displayed under each section heading to facilitate the planning of reading activities.

Collaborative learning: Longpage supports collaborative reading by allowing students and teachers to write and respond to publicly visible comments.

Learning analytics: For research purposes, Longpage collects extensive data on receptive and productive learning processes, enabling detailed analysis through data mining techniques. These findings can be incorporated into the evaluation of learning behavior, teaching strategies, and design decisions for the learning environment.

AI integration: Longpage also integrates AI tools such as adaptive visualizations of reading progress, generatable reading comprehension tests, and a course recommendation system that provide additional support to students as they engage with the text.
