Climate-positive Wehringhausen (CPW)
Information About the Project
The “Climate-Positive Wehringhausen” project will be implemented by the Hagen Sustainability Center (Nachhaltigkeitszentrum Hagen e.V.) from early 2025 through late 2026 in the Wehringhausen district of Hagen. Its goal is to transform Wehringhausen into a climate-positive neighborhood that can serve as a model for others, while actively involving local residents and stakeholders throughout.
The focus is on raising awareness and mobilizing neighborhood residents to participate in climate protection and adaptation efforts, reduce their emissions, and implement concrete climate protection measures in the district.
A central component of the project is the establishment of a district-based “climate fund” that provides financial support for innovative climate protection projects.
Three sustainability conferences will be held over the two-year period. At the first conference, six future labs will be formed that will focus on the topics: food, mobility, integration, buildings & infrastructure, economy and lifestyle & culture.
The future labs regularly organize events on climate protection and sustainability, including panel discussions, workshops, and readings with expert speakers. These events impart knowledge, promote exchange, and develop concrete project ideas for a climate-positive neighborhood, which are then implemented in the neighborhood with the support of the Climate Fund.
