Ensuring medical care in disadvantaged regions

Comparison of policy strategies in Germany, France, England and Sweden

Ensuring adequate outpatient medical care is a core task of public policy in advanced European welfare states. Supply standards in disadvantaged regions are increasingly threatened, even though the number of physicians practicing nationally is still growing.
Research within the project is focussed on the following issues:

  • Key Policy problems in outpatient medical provision in disadvantaged regions.
  • Policy strategies in different European countries responding to these problems.
  • Factors explaining different choices of policy objectives and instruments.
  • Changes to regulation and provision in healthcare systems of different types.
