Research project on artificial intelligence and machine learning funded by VolkswagenStiftung

We are pleased to be part of the international and interdisciplinary research project "Artificial Intelligence as 'virtual citizens' in a plural and dynamic society", which is funded by the VolkswagenStiftung. Within this research project on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning, we are primarily researching gamification and technology acceptance among other things in the context of Smart Mobility. For example, how are commuters encouraged to use smart mobility apps (also in the long term)? What does it take for commuters to change their driving habits and possibly change their means of transport or take a less favorable route in order to reduce the amount of traffic jams for everyone on the road? Their moral motives and motivation play an important role in this process, which is to be understood with the help of the "sociology of conventions". An improved interaction between people and technology - especially with regard to fairness and transparency of AI-based decisions - is the goal.

Members of the BAS team involved in the research project: Prof. Dr. Stefan Smolnik, Dr. Karolin Eva Kappler and Dr. Katharina Ebner
