Dr Richard Grasshoff in a virtual fireside chat on AI as a game changer in the public sector
[19.05.2025]Dr Richard Grasshoff from PD - Consultant to the public sector in a virtual fireside chat on the topic of AI and knowledge management!
As part of a collaborative guest lecture together with Prof Stefan Smolnik's Chair of Business Application Systems, we gained valuable insights into how AI is transforming public administration.
Dr Grasshoff, Knowledge Manager at PD, began with a comprehensive overview of the strategic role of knowledge management in a consulting firm. After an initial stimulating Q&A session with comments from Prof Smolnik and Prof Winkler, he presented three practical case studies:
- F13: A research and chat assistance system in the state of Baden Württemberg that helps administrative staff to find relevant information more quickly. (Link)
- FACIL: An AI-supported assistance system at the Federal Foreign Office that helps categorise enquiries in visa processes. (Link)
- Semantic search solution of the council information system Allris for the city of Oberhausen, which provides citizens with improved access to municipal information. (Link)
The examples illustrate this: AI can make public administration more efficient, accessible and sovereign - provided the focus is on data protection, transparency and user-centricity.
In the concluding discussion round, the students contributed with a wide range of questions and perspectives.
Many thanks, Dr Grasshoff, for the expert lecture and the enriching exchange!
