Task

The EU project deals with digital information encompassing primary data as well as every information expressed in official publications. It is engaged with interlinking all forms of digital information to safeguard interoperability between them against the background of the pivotal question: How can we turn data into information and from there make the step turning information into wisdom?

In the center of attention stands the long-term preservation of digital primary scientific data. Unfortunately, digital primary data often are scattered among various scientific institutions and administered by the researchers themselves. These data are often not accessible and preserved for the future.

Goal

Therefore, the aim of the Eu project PARSE.Insight is to develop a roadmap for supporting the e-infrastructure in order to maintain the long-term accessibility and the usability of scientific digital information in Europe. Long-term preservation in this context does not mean preservation for the short term, but rather, trustworthy and persistent preservation of and access to digital data such that they remain interpretable and quotable for decades. This access to data is a basic condition for scientific research.

PARSE.Insight is closely tied to the Alliance for Permanent Access, which tends to develop a shared vision and framework for a sustainable organizational infrastructure for permanent access to scientific information. The output from the project is aimed to influence the European Commission's calls about research infrastructure and to guide it respectively.
