Research and teaching at the department of History of European Modernity, headed by University Professor Dr Alexandra Przyrembel, focus on processes of global, transnational, local interdependence and circulation during a historical period that set in at the end of the 18th century and continues to the present day. Following the concept of ‘multiple modernities’ (Shmuel Eisenstadt), we are interested in the variety and diversity of European modernity in its historical processuality. Our engagement with the ‘European’ 19th and 20th century primarily involves topics such as the history of violence, questions of social inequality and the transformation of knowledge.
