There's no getting past AI anymore – Learning AID 2026 in Bochum

In early September, representatives of the Chair of Social Psychology attended Learning AID 2026 in Bochum. The conference was dedicated to current developments in digital teaching and learning and to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education.
This year's particular focus lay on the challenges, but also the supporting possibilities, that AI offers. Several keynote talks gave insights into how AI is already being used successfully in teaching – mostly in smaller groups and in pilot projects. In addition, various applications were tried out hands-on in workshops, including the use of AI to create learning videos with avatars, as well as students' reflective use of AI in written assignments.
The visit also offered an opportunity for professional exchange with other participants, along with valuable impulses for the Chair's ongoing work in research and teaching. The shared conclusion: "AI can no longer be argued away or shut out. You have to learn to work with it and to see it as support – not as a replacement for students' learning success or for the actual work."
