Summer School 2016

Date: June 20 - 26, 2016

Location: Academy for Civic Education (Akademie für Politische Bildung) Tutzing, Germany

The successful series of international summer schools on the topic of bioethics has been continued in 2016. The department “Practical Philosophy – Ethics, Law and Economy” of the institute of philosophy at the Fernuniversität in Hagen organized an international summer school from June 20th to June 26th, 2016 in cooperation with four Southeast European partner universities and the Academy for Civic Education in Tutzing, Germany. The theme for this international summer school was bioethics as a scientific and social project: the idea of Integrative Bioethics.

Bioethical questions can no longer be reduced to problems that can be resolved through philosophical deduction or reflection in the framework of applied ethics. These problems urge for a methodologically anchored sensibility towards the task of coordinating different scientific subjects (e.g. natural scientific, juridical and ethical) as well as socio-cultural (e.g. political, social psychological, religious) perspectives. The term “Integrative Bioethics” simultaneously includes methodological and application-oriented fundamental questions of bioethical theory and practice that have to be discussed taking into account a non-reductionistic and result-oriented dialogue of all concerned perspectives.
