- Study published in WTO collection: "Making Globalization More Inclusive“
The paper "German Employment Legislation and its Impact on the Trade and Labour Market Nexus" by Prof. Schmerer and Antonia Reinecke was published in the WTO collection "Making Globalization More Inclusive: Lessons from Experience with Adjustment Policies" in October, 2019. The paper was developed in cooperation with the WTO and analyzes the interaction effects between import competition and employment protection based upon the experience of the German labor market reform shortly after the turn of the 20th century. The Main result of the study is that employment protection seems to have little direct effects on the trade and labor demand nexus but that it places an additional cost on the firm that provides an incentive to train its workers. - Publication in "Review of International Economics"
The recent working paper "Offshoring and Firm Overlap" was accepted for publication in the "Review of International Economics". The pape is co-authored by Stella Capuano, Hartmut Egger, Michael Koch and Hans-Jörg Schmerer. - The FernUniversität in Hagen and CEAMeS organized a joint conference with Westminster University and the University of Duisburg-Essen in London
