Psychopathische Persönlichkeitseigenschaften - Ursachen und Konsequenzen

Jump to the English version

Psychopathic Personalitytraits - Causes and Consequences

Our research focus is on personality traits and individual differences, particularly in terms of abnormal, delinquent, or harmful behavior. More specifically, psychopathic personality traits as well as their causes and consequences are at the center of our research work. The research entails studies with selected samples of both prison inmates and forensic-psychiatric patients as well as surveys with individuals from the general community. Apart from psychopathy, other traits of the so-called “Dark Tetrad” of personality (i.e., narcissism, Machiavellianism, and sadism) are topics of interest. Consequently, we call ourselves (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) the “DARTH LAB” (i.e., Dark Tetrad Assessment & Research Team Hagen). Furthermore, sexual interest and behavior (especially paraphilic variants thereof) are research topics in the unit. The research methods used comprise customary modes of assessment (such as questionnaires or observer rating instruments) as well as experimental tasks (mostly decision-making and reaction time). As far as psychological assessment and consulting are concerned, the emphasis is on the area of legal psychology, with applications like mental health assessment or risk assessment of criminal offenders.
