Sustainability – and the energy transition related to this context – is currently a central topic in politics, sociology, and economics. What contribution can quantitative methods and models from economics make to solving the associated challenges? This is one of the main research questions of the Chair of Operations Research. Among other things, we investigate how energy consumption and emissions in economic units can be recorded and how operational processes can subsequently be optimised by exploiting energy flexibility potential. In addition to the purely economic goals, the ecological consequences are also focused on by means of multi-criteria approaches. Further aspects of our research include the optimal control of PV systems and their storage systems, and the forecasting of electricity generation from renewable energies.
