- HDI Conference
Ms. Linxen presented our paper “Piloting a competence network based on the Four Component Instructional Design model for data science teaching” on September 14, 2023, at the tenth conference for higher-education didactics (HDI 2023) in Aix-en-Chapelle. This work presents the integration of the learning taxonomy by Anderson and Krathwohl with the 4C/ID instructional design model to develop a competency-based curriculum for data science courses. - DELFI-Conference, Aix-la-Chapelle
Congratulations to Ms. Stephanie Ebbing on her successful participation in the demo session of the DELFI conference on September 12, 2023. Supported by her supervisor Andrea Linxen from the data science department, Ms. Ebbing presented a chatbot with modular teaching styles she developed as part of her bachelor's thesis. The chatbot, based on the Rasa framework, guides students through an exploratory data analysis that explores the sales figures of a major American retail chain. The chatbot encourages students to explore the data independently in three different phases with varying degrees of personal effort. The feedback from conference visitors was extremely positive and we congratulate Ms. Ebbing on this strong performance! - First research day of the chair of Data Science
The first research day of the chair of Data Science has taken place. - Inaugural lecture of Professor Christian Beecks
The inaugural lecture of Professor Christian Beecks took place on Monday, 18 September 2023. The title of the event was "Data Science at FernUni - An insight into this fascinating discipline!”. After a brief introduction of himself and the Data Science team, Professor Beecks not only explained excerpts of the current research topics in his field, but also gave an insight into what "Data Science" means to him. - Dataninja Retreat
From September 6th to 8th, we participated in the third retreat of the research training group Dataninja. This event in Krefeld offered interesting discussions on current research topics with fellow researchers at different universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. The topic of data drift detection in data streams was especially prominent. - DEXA Conference
On August 28th 2023, we presented our research on the structural analysis of time series via Gaussian processes and the Apriori algorithm at the „Database and Expert System Applications“ (DEXA) Conference in Penang, Malaysia. This conference offered many opportunities for exchanging with researches from all over the world, especially on topics like rule learning. These discussions inspired new approaches that we intend to implement in the future. - Paper presented at the 10th IHIET conference 2023 in Nice
Maria Potanin presented our research paper "The impact of automation frameworks on today's data science competencies" at this year's International Conference on Human Interaction and Emerging Technologies in Nice on August 24th. In this paper we addressed data science competencies and automation frameworks. The goal of this paper was to investigate whether modern automation frameworks have data science competencies in their design. - We are hiring!
