The Chair in brief

The Chair of Business Administration, esp. Corporate and Management Accounting, was founded in mid-2003 at the FernUniversität in Hagen. Prof. Dr. Jörn Littkemann was appointed as the founding professor and has held the chair ever since.

With more than 5,000 students per semester in the modules offered, the chair is one of the largest chairs at the FernUniversität.

Mission Statement and Understanding of Controlling

The concept of controlling is interpreted broadly by the Chair. In general, controlling is understood as the effective and efficient planning and control of operational and business processes for the purpose of corporate management. The goal of controlling is to support management decisions in order to achieve set goals, especially economic goals.

In doing so, it is necessary to coordinate the various sub-units of a company in a purposeful manner. This includes both the control of "hard" controlling instruments, which are generally based on quantitative parameters, and "soft" controlling instruments, which are primarily based on qualitative parameters. In addition, one of the most important tasks of controlling is the development and ongoing operation of an information system focused on the respective corporate goals.

Against this background, a practice-oriented preparation of the scientific teaching and research contents is a matter of course for the chair.
