Political Processes of the Bioeconomy between Economy and Ecology (Bio-Ecopoli)

Photo: FernUniversität

The research project was initially granted 3 years of funding by the BMBF through its funding line “Bioeconomy as social change” in February 2017 and has been realized as a joint project by the FernUniversität in Hagen and the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (Chair of Political Science with a focus on sustainable development, Prof. Dr. Michael Böcher).

The project investigates environmentally relevant policy processes that promote or regulate the bioeconomy in different areas (bioplastics, biofuels, bioenergy) and at different territorial levels (municipal, regional, national, EU). The aim of the theory-based comparative case studies is to characterize the regulatory frameworks of bioeconomy and their key players, problem structures, and institutional frameworks in greater detail. To this end, comparative case studies will first be conducted using the inherent dynamics of political processes (AEP) approach.
