The FernUniversität in Hagen

The FernUniversität in Hagen is number one in Germany when it comes to distance learning: It is the country’s only state-run distance learning university, has more than 40 years of experience and is the largest university in Germany – with currently nearly 70,000 active students. FernUni students can obtain an internationally recognized bachelor’s or master’s degree. Thanks to university’s flexible study system, you can achieve this alongside a career or while spending time with your family.

What Can I Study at the FernUni?

You can choose from around 30 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs as well as numerous academic continuing education programs in the fields of humanities and social sciences, business administration and economics, mathematics and computer science, and law.

  • You can study at the FernUniversität from anywhere in the world! The FernUniversität’s blended learning system makes it possible for you to study even when you’re abroad. You can enroll digitally or by post. Your course material study packs will be sent to you – wherever you are. You can also use digital media such as online seminars and virtual lectures, teaching and learning tools such as wikis and blogs, and access the University Library’s digital services. Many information events take place online.

How does distance learning work?

You learn where and when you want, so you are flexible in terms of time and location. You receive course material study packs to work on, you can use digital media (such as online seminars and virtual lectures), teaching and learning tools including wikis and blogs, and attend a few face-to-face events.

Distant and yet close at hand. The FernUniversität has regional and study centers all over Germany. They offer you specialist advice, support and the opportunity to network with other students near where you live. This also applies to the centers in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland.

What does it cost to study at the FernUni?

A bachelor’s degree course costs between 2,000 and 2,700 euros, while a master’s degree will cost between 700 and 1,800 euros.

Costs of Distance Learning

When can I start my studies?

There are two possibilities to start your studies every year. You can enroll for the summer semester in the period from 1 December to 31 January, for the winter from 1 June to 31 July.
