CATALPA – Center of Advanced Technology for Assisted Learning and Predictive Analytics
CATALPA, the FernUniversität in Hagen’s Center of Advanced Technology for Assisted Learning and Predictive Analytics – is the university’s first dedicated interdisciplinary research institution. Here, we bring together computer science, engineering, psychology, social research, education, and law to not only support digital transformations but also actively shape them.

WED: Digital Health
The WED Research Group: Digital Health addresses issues related to the digitization of the healthcare system, thus helping to improve care and prevention through digitalization. The group carries out interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and development projects, to develop digital solutions for existing problems and support their implementation.

How do digital technologies influence our culture and society? The research group digital culture at the FernUniversität Hagen examines the interactions between digital innovations and cultural processes, particularly in the fields of society, art, media, and communication. Its goal is to understand how culture is being transformed by digitalization and to develop new perspectives for analyzing digital phenomena.

What Sets Research at the FernUniversität in Hagen Apart?
Research at the FernUniversität in Hagen is rooted in digital technology, interdisciplinary in nature, and embedded in society. We pool our expertise on three key areas: Energy and Sustainability, digital_culture, and WED: Digital Health. We bring these topics together across departmental boundaries to address complex societal challenges. Thanks to research centers like CATALPA and initiatives such as the LEAD:FUH educational architecture project , we are shaping the future of learning. At the same time, we support early-career researchers, maintain the integrity of research, and actively share our findings with policymakers, the business community, and the general public. We see knowledge transfer as our “third mission” alongside research and teaching.
