This project analyzes the practices of archiving Telegram in the context of the war in Ukraine. The empirical core of the research is the TG Archive of the War, an emergency archiving project launched by the author of this research. It provides informative insights into the affordances and challenges of grassroots social media archiving. The research will focus on the political and sociotechnical conditions and implications of civic community archives in a platform society. One of the core aims of the project is exploring collaborative formats of archival access to minimise safety risks and risks of unethical use of the data while enhancing its accessibility for researchers in humanities and social sciences. By focusing on an emerging form of practice and a field of study, this dissertation contributes to the methodological discussion about social media archiving and also a broader discussion about rethinking the notion of archives, social media as a historical source, and digital public history as a participative practice of historical knowledge production.
