Since 2020, the Belarusian law enforcement system has launched a historical-political campaign under the label ‘genocide of the Belarusian people. ’Through various narratives, the campaign seeks to legitimize state violence and shape national identity by constructing historical continuity with the Nazi war of extermination and the Holocaust. A key tool in this campaign is state-produced film: since 2021, numerous feature films and documentaries have been created to disseminate a state-defined ‘historical truth.’

The presentation analyzes selected productions and discusses how the regime uses film and digital platforms to construct a state-controlled culture of memory.
