On 7 and 8 November 2025, the Department of Public History will host an international workshop “Rethinking Police Violence during Civic Unrest” at the FernUniversität campus in Berlin.

The workshop will bring together young researchers from various parts of the world, including the former Soviet Union, the Global South and established democracies. The aim of the workshop is to create a platform for academic exchange on the complex relationships between the police, protest movements and the use of force.

The workshop is supported by the Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur and the “Scholars for Belarus” program by the Academic Network for Eastern Europe (akno e.V.).
