What is my role in CATALPA?

I am working on the development and research of personalized visual representations for intelligent learning assistants. In my doctoral project, GITTE, I am investigating how generative AI, structured knowledge representation, and iterative co-creation with AI can be used to identify individual design preferences. I am investigating how the representations of intelligent learning assistants must be designed so that they can spark girls’ interest in STEM subjects and encourage them to explore these topics further, as well as identifying which negative stereotypes act as barriers.

Why CATALPA?

CATALPA combines computer science with other fields of application. This interdisciplinary approach provides a framework for potentially expanding GITTE’s use as a research system to a broader audience. I would like to continue my research beyond my doctoral studies and, in doing so, develop participatory, transparent, and empirically verifiable design methods.

    • Generative AI for personalized and adaptive learning technologies
    • Intelligent learning assistants and their visual representations
    • Participatory, iterative, and co-creative design of AI systems
    • Ontologies and structured representations of design features, in particular the Pedagogical Agents Level of Design (PALD) model and its further developments
    • Capturing explicit and implicit preferences as well as rejected features
    • Explainability, traceability, bias analysis, and data protection in AI-supported learning systems
    • Methodology for validating AI-generated artifacts and ensuring the reproducibility of empirical research
