Support concept

Researchers at CATALPA work interdisciplinary, which is also represented by our supervision concept

CATALPA pursues a two-supervisor concept. The participating professors supervise PhD candidates from related and unrelated disciplines, which promotes a broad-based interdisciplinary academic exchange.

Annual progress meetings are held to review the current status, set goals, and discuss appropriate measures to achieve them. Agreements between doctoral candidates and supervisors are recorded in writing (supervision agreement, progress report). In addition, regular, individually agreed meetings with supervisors take place to discuss the progress of the PhD program.

Reporting and templates

A supervision agreement, an exposé, and annual progress reports contribute to a high standard of our PhD supervision within the CATALPA Graduate School. They serve to formulate the research project, determine individual support needs, create a personal development plan, reflect on individual work progress, and clarify mutual expectations.

The exposé is submitted to the program coordination office six months after the start date, and the progress reports are submitted 12 and 24 months after the start date.

Interconnection with the faculties

CATALPA does not have its own right to award doctorates, but it works closely with the faculties so that the respective requirements and processes can be well integrated. The subject-specific requirements for a doctorate can be found in the doctoral regulations of the respective faculty. If you have any further questions, please contact the dean's office or PhD committee of the respective faculty:
