Stereotype Threat
Die Forschungsgruppe „Stereotype Threat“ ist Teil des Forschungszentrums CATALPA.
Die Forschungsgruppe „Stereotype Threat“ beschäftigt sich damit, wie z.B. Geschlecht, Alter und Migrationshintergrund und „Anderssein“ sowie die damit einhergehenden Stereotypen den Studienerfolg und auch die soziale Eingebundenheit beeinflussen. Die Wissenschaftler*innen schauen hier insbesondere auf die digitale Hochschullehre.
Ziele und Forschungsfragen
Das digitale Fernstudium birgt Chancen für nicht-traditionelle Studierende (z.B. Studierende mit Migrationshintergrund, ältere oder berufstätige Studierende). Jedoch können digitale Lehr-Lern-Settings auch zusätzliche Herausforderungen für nicht-traditionelle Studierende darstellen, da soziale Gruppenzugehörigkeiten (z.B. Geschlecht, Alter, Migrationshintergrund) besonders im Vordergrund stehen. Das Projekt untersucht den Einfluss von Stereotypen (generalisierte Eigenschaftszuschreibungen) über verschiedene Gruppen nicht-traditioneller Studierender auf ihren Studienerfolg, ihr Zugehörigkeitsgefühl und ihre soziale Eingebundenheit.
Sozialpsychologische Forschung hat gezeigt, dass negative leistungsbezogene Stereotype die Testleistungen, den Studienerfolg, das Lernen und die soziale Eingebundenheit von negativ stereotypisierten Studierendengruppen beeinflussen können. Die Stereotype verhindern also, dass die betroffenen Studierenden ihr intellektuelles Potential ausschöpfen. Dieser Effekt wird Stereotype Threat (Bedrohung durch Stereotype) genannt. Das Projekt untersucht erstmals den Einfluss von Stereotype Threat für nicht-traditionelle Studierende in der digitalen Fernlehre. In einem zweiten Schritt werden zwei Interventionen getestet, die nicht-traditionelle Studierende dabei unterstützen sollen, sich an der Universität zugehörig zu fühlen. Das Projekt soll dazu beitragen, dass die Interventionen in Zukunft adaptiv eingesetzt werden können, um Stereotype Threat als Hürde für nicht-traditionelle Studierende in der digitalen Hochschullehre zu reduzieren.
