International Conference in mathematical Physics honors Prof. Wolfgang Spitzer

The conference “Recent Developments in Mathematical Physics and Related Fields” at the FernUniversität in Hagen was dedicated to the 60th birthday of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Spitzer

The conference brought together researchers from Germany, numerous European countries, and the United States.

A total of 23 scientists presented their latest research findings. The focus was on new developments in mathematical physics and related areas of analysis. Topics discussed included questions regarding quantum systems, random Schrödinger operators, Bose-Einstein condensation, and the properties of fermionic and bosonic many-particle systems — a central area of research for Prof. Spitzer. The topic of entanglement entropy (EE) in fermionic systems, for example, plays a role as a “tool” in the field of quantum information.

In addition to the scientific presentations, the conference offered numerous opportunities for professional exchange. Numerous international guests as well as former colleagues of Wolfgang Spitzer took the opportunity to deepen existing contacts and initiate new collaborations. The conference, organized by the departments of Analysis and Applied Stochastics, thus once again underscored the international networking and visibility of research at FernUniversität.
